Suspicions Confirmed and Denied.

Hey hey hey,
What do ya say? ...yeah I don't know either. But anyway, hello there all my friends and blog readers. How are you this fine weekend? Oh, you don't think it's a fine weekend? Well I think it is and I'll tell you why.

Yesterday during the day was church. It was weird because it was still chilly but also legitimately sunny for the first time in a while which was a beautiful thing. I saw this girl with her priceless patch and had to take a photo. That's also how I knew that day was going to be a good one.

The patch says "Beat It Creep" and I find it so relevant to my life

Mooooving along. So I arrived at church, learned a lot, gave the cute pastor a hug and was on my way. I got a text and, after a short conversation, found out I was going to go listen to some music that night. Yay for music! This invitation came from the Guy I went out with on Monday. The one whose sexuality you questioned Nina? Yes peeps, that one. He said he "thought they'd be playing some music I'd like". Let me just skip ahead really quick and tell you that once he finally arrived there he had no idea what genre any of the bands playing were. As such, how can you think I might like them when you don't even know what they are and I'm not even sure you know what I like? But more on that later.

I got dolled up, and unfortunately I don't think I have a photo for you which is a bit of a shame. The lighting was never good and when it was I wasn't thinking about taking a selfie. I left my apartment and while walking to the train nearly had a heart attack because I felt a drop here and there. Ran back to my place for a beanie because I've found that's all I really need in the rain. Umbrellas are nice but umbrellas are big and the cute bag I'm using from Zara, is not. I arrived at the venue which was called Rockwood Music Hall. It's in Chinatown which is the most adorable of haunts in the city I'm learning. I texted Guy and, lo and behold, he's running late. Pretty sure when I first texted him he was still in Brooklyn even though we agreed to meet originally at 8 then changed it to 9. I gave you an extra hour and you still show up 30 minutes late? That's not a good way to start things. Just saying. I prefer punctuality. After figuring out which stage we were supposed to meet at (there's more than one), I went in and commenced with enjoying free live music. Because yes, ladies and gentlemen, the music was free! I heard Crystal Monee (pronounced mo-nay) sing last night and she was absolutely amazing. She sang a song from "Empire" for crying out loud.

Crystal Monee

Guy arrived closer to the end of Crystal's set. One thing that I found throughout the night is that he likes to talk to me during the music. Since he's tall like a tree he can just bend down and say whatever into my ear (which kept messing up my hair uh rude but whateves I guess ha), he took advantage of that. It kind of just lead me to believe he doesn't go to concerts very often. Like yes, the occasional comment will be passed here and there but if I'm there for the music, I'm there for the music. You can talk to me later. Tell me all my concert peeps, amiright? I just found that interesting.

Anyway, next up was this band called Black Taxi. I thought that was a very strange name. What I found even more strange was the fact that they sounded like an amalgamation of Foals, Fall Out Boy, Kavinsky (but only in their instrumentals), and Peter, Bjorn and John all at once. Imagine a band like that. They were good but I'd think you'd prefer to have your own sound instead of borrowing from a lot of other greats but I don't make music I just ingest it so don't listen to me. What I found a bit sad was when I mentioned the four bands to Guy, telling him my thoughts on Black Taxi, he didn't know who Foals or Peter, Bjorn and John were at all. That made me oh so very sad. It also confirmed my suspicion of his taste in music. Definitely leaning more towards the mainstream side. He said Black Taxi sounded like Maroon 5 to him, then started talking about their earlier albums. I was like oh.

Black Taxi

It was during this Black Taxi performance that he had put his hand on my shoulder while telling me something, then after he finished his comment, left it there. I tend to acutely notice when I'm being touched, solicited or not. So yeah, I took note. And this only further confused me as to his orientation because gay guys don't usually do that but that was the only real sign I had to go on that he could even possibly be the slightest bit straight. Everything else up to that point had lead me to believe the opposite.

By this time it was around 11 something and we both learned that neither of us had eaten and both of us were hungry. We walked outside and discussed the weather for half a second. I'm a sucker for pockets so my hands were in them when we exited and they stayed there because it was chilly and a bit windy out. I said something about being cold and Guy tried to awkwardly pull me into a hug or put his arms through the triangle space my arms made or something? I don't know, it didn't really work though. So then he stopped and we started to just walk around and look for something to eat. Then he remembered this delicious Indian place he'd had fantastic vegetarian food. So we went.

All of the lights

Panna II

The place is called Panna II and it is indeed very delicious. Somehow we got on the topic of weddings and I mentioned that I already have mine fully planned out. He thought I was kidding and asked me to tell him. So I did. He no longer thought I was kidding after that. In fact he actually applauded me for having planned everything out so much already? I was acutely aware of the aim for that conversation but it didn't end up getting weird or anything which was nice.

By then it was nearly midnight and me, thinking okay, that's enough of alright Saturday night music, assumed we were heading home. But oh no, we were not. Back to Rockwood we went. While deciding if we were going to go back to the stage we had been at previously or try a different one, Guy went in to get his credit card and close his tab. I stood outside waiting and all of a sudden this short Indian guy walks up to me and says, "I really like your style. It's pretty great." I almost chuckled aloud as I realized that I was getting picked up by one guy while I was on a date with another. That's never expressly happened before. He starts to ask me where I got my scarf from (I was wearing a pashmina) when Guy walks up. The Indian guy looks skittish for a half a second before explaining he was just complimenting my style and I thought to myself, 'Nice save.' Tell me why after that, the two of them started talking about Indian food and the Indian guy told us a story about how he picked up a girl there, they went in to eat but when he tried to text her later to go out again, she blew hm off. I just stood there the entire time thinking, 'Is this real life? Oh my.' That was more or less our exit and we went in to hear this weird bluegrass band called either Brazilian Johnsons or President Johnsons play. If I had known their genre beforehand I would have said something.

He had on a "Clockwork Orange" shirt and it was awesome

The Brazilian/President Johnsons

I'm not sure which was their actual name. They were okay if you like that sort of thing but I don't like that sort of thing so... yeah I wasn't the biggest fan. Then I started getting slightly dizzy and felt cramps coming on so I knew it was time for Nina to leave. I was honest thank you very much, and told Guy I wasn't feeling well. He understood immediately and walked me to the train I needed. While on our way he commented about one thing or another and I chattered back as usual. We got to my train and he looked down at me with a more meaningful look than I expected and asked, "So will I see you again?" My internal response was, 'Good gracious son you sound like there's a more pressing matter at hand that you would like to discuss. I mean! When did seeing someone again become such a grave subject?' Out loud I said yes and that it was good to see him. Then I turned and went down the stairs. Call me horrible but I'm still not 100% if he meant for something else to happen but I mean if you want something take it? Or at least ask politely Don't just assume people are going to intuit whatever it is you want.

That was the end of the night. I made it home by around 2 and was in bed by 2:30. The end.

Then came Sunday aka today! I'd been excited for Sunday for a while after having found out about some art shows going on right now. I'd slated myself to go to one of them today, hence my excitement. I woke up, got dressed, and off I went.

Sunshineeeee is a friend of mine

I found myself back in Chinatown, right around the corner from where I'd been last night actually, and that was alright with me.

Cars always ruin photos

Robert Frost would be a little confused

The show was at the Rachel Uffner Gallery, showing work by Bianca Beck and Josh Brand. Below are some photos along with my thoughts on some of the pieces. I'm not sure if I was supposed to take them but I did so there you have it.

Title

Titties
Honestly, when looking at this in real life, to me it symbolized female sexualization in society. The idea, or fact really, that women are really only told their good because of their bodies, not their minds or wits or anything else they can actually do or accomplish. In the top right corner are a pair of eyes but you can hardly see them. This only further solidified my point.

She had her hand over head like, "I'm fabulous. AND WHAT?"

Selfies with art

After that enriching experience, I ended up going to a market to get some food and stopped by an American Apparel I randomly happened to run into. It was cool though because I needed a replacement for a nail polish I have from there. The girl at the cash register tells me, "You know it's 5 for $10 on nail polish right now, right?" I nearly had a heart attack and died right on the spot. So I go around and pick out four other colors, including a hologram polish because how could you not? I'd been looking for one since Urban Outfitters stopped carrying theirs and got so excited when I saw it at AA. I come back to the cash register with my newfound bounty and, long story short, the girl got it wrong. Their polish promotion was like last week or something. By this point I was just fed up with her. Do NOT say such things to a nail polish lover such as myself, then tell me sorry I got it wrong their regular price. I could've kicked her. So instead of five new polishes, I left with the color I originally intended on getting and the hologram one. Then it was to the train and back home.

The outside of WallPlay

Pretty sure some guy and this other lady tried to swindle me out of $500? It's too long of a story to write out, mostly because I'm tired and don't feel like it, so sorry. But that's the gist of it. Basically.

So in conclusion:
-suspicion about Guy being gay: ...still confused/denied a little?
-suspicion about Guy not knowing what kind of music I like: confirmed
-suspicion about my needing art in my life consistently to function properly: confirmed
-suspicion about dating Guy seriously: ...I have no idea. Sort of.
-suspicion about my always being able to let Guy chose the night's activity: denied

Well, that's all folks. Mercy on my life. More later more than likely. Sunday has been truly phenomenal. I love art and Chinatown and walking around. And this weather makes me believe spring will come at some point. Hopefully.

Until next time lovelies,
xx
